Birthday 53

    And so they went
    Your story and mine
    Down separate roads
    Decades of time.

    Cicadas in my summers
    Surf on your shore
    Spouses, kids and whatnots
    We never asked for more.

But what God does not sanction
    Time will erode
    And finally we were swallowed
    By dreams that overflowed.

So life has come full circle,
    Desires long left alone
    Are coming to fruition
In a place we now call home.

    Your birthday’s just another day
    To celebrate our find,
A youthful love, a simple gift,
    Two lives forever twined.
