Dark Highways

    She loves an old Texan
    Who never was a cowboy.
    Pacific white moon nights
And blue waves raised up his deep soul dreams.

    Ten thousand miles never revealed
    Love simple as the sun
Like bright yellow songs I sang
Every morning I found a road to you.

Then storms rained darkness every turn
    I tried to find you.
I finally lost my song in a Wyoming winter
Your picture still in my pocket.

    Dark highways now weave
Randomly through my sleep, lights passing me
Seventy miles an hour, no one stopping
To take me back to you.
