To Wyatt Hudson Russ
I was always on the fence, trying to decide if I wanted to be a dad. Long about my early thirty’s I grew out of my idiot phase. Thereafter sometime after I was blessed with 2 beautiful sons, now amazing young men.
So when my oldest son, Skyler, told me he and Brittany were pregnant I did what he most hated: I cried. Our beautiful grandson was born on Thanksgiving 2022. Patti and I have the joy and privilege of watching him grow week to week.
It’s an amazing opportunity, being a grandparent vs a parent. I now have focus, wisdom, patience, understanding, amazement, appreciation, perspective and a time clock ticking in my head. I will most likely never know his child or even his sweetheart. So for Wyatt I dedicate this website, so that he might know a little of his grandpa. And maybe, innately, he’ll remember sleeping on my chest, hearing my heartbeat as he fell asleep, and equate those moments and these words to what love and heritage means.
Birmingham
We took a drive to Birmingham, Alabama to see Patti’s oldest daughter, Quinn. If you haven’t been Birmingham is really a beautiful city. We had the good fortune to visit a lovely winery, among other venues. We look forward to going back for Quinn’s upcoming wedding.
